Brief
Design a seamless digital experience for their Duty-Free (DF) stores that allowed customers to personalise their device front panels.
Client
Ploom, JTI.

Problem
The tool needed to be simple enough to use on-site—either with a Ploom Expert guiding the interaction or fully self-service—while also offering meaningful customisation that felt elevated and on-brand.

Solution
I began by designing a library of bespoke patterns and colourways tailored to each new Ploom front panel collection, drawing inspiration from local cues to create a sense of place while staying true to the brand’s sleek aesthetic. The next step was to prototype a native app that would allow shoppers to design their own unique product.
I mapped out the user journey for both guided and unguided experiences—thinking through how a shopper would navigate the tool in a high-traffic airport setting. Using Illustrator and Photoshop, I built out all the design assets, and then brought everything together in Adobe XD and Figma to prototype and test the interface. The app focused on intuitive touch interactions, clear customisation choices, and a real-time visual preview of the design.

Impact
The result was a polished, easy-to-use application that enabled smooth on-site personalisation, with or without a brand ambassador present.
We achieved a balance between creativity and simplicity—providing shoppers with a Nike ID-style experience without overwhelming them with too many options. The customisation process added value to the product, created a moment of engagement at the POS, and offered a truly personal souvenir from their travels.
This project let me combine strategic UX thinking with hands-on design execution—crafting an experience that was both brand-enhancing and delightfully user-centric.
